The Life of a Botanist

              Botanists are scientist who study plants and other similar organisms. To most people the definition for "plants" is restricted to things with roots that grow from the ground, such as the giant sequoia tree. On the other hand most biology classes teach otherwise.Their definition of plants include: algae, fungi, lichens, mosses, ferns, conifers and flowering plants. Still scientists today believe bacteria, algae and fungi are in their own distinct kingdoms. Most Botanist do experiments to find out how plants turn simple chemical compoundsinto more intricate chemicals. Botanists may even study how the genetic information in DNA which manipulates plant developement. They study processes that take place on a time scale from fractions of a secomd in individual sells to those that ensue over eons of time. Botanists perform reserches to increase and improve our variety of medicines, foods, building materials, fibers, and other products produced by plants.
