What is the most fun part of your job?
Working with the youth of fcass county whether they are in 4-h, FFA, or other orginizations. another fun part is providing educational information one on one, also through workshops and seminars.

What's the easiest part about your job?
Meeting people and keeping a positive attitude which includes some humor in my daily activities if at all possible.

What's the hardest part about your job?
working through and solving conttoversies and differences between adults. filing monthly reports can be hard sometimes.

How do you become a county extension agent?
obtain a Bachelors degree in a realted field,i.e bachelors of science in agriculturor family consumer science (home Economics. extension requires a master degree but you have seven years to complete your degree. Texas Cooperative Extension has a with jobs avalible

Who does your job appeal to?
agents need to be good listeners, good communicators, have good people skills, be good teachers and leaders, and have an attitude of continuing self improvement/professional development.

What kind of college courses and training do you have to have?
there are three different types of agents. 1.agricultur and natural resources agent, (2) family and consumer science agents, and (3) 4-h agents. agents need college courses that are related to these fields. texas cooperative extensionwill provide continuing trainind through out your career on a yearly basis.

What kind of people do county extension agents help?
all people of texas. the elderly (health and income issues), young people (4-h and curriculum enrichment programs), homeowners, and agriculture producers are a few examples of people we help.

Are there any other programs other than FFA or 4-H?
to name a few, agents work with entities in joint programs with the natural resources conservtion service, farm service agency, texas forest service, independent school districts, universities and colleges, child protective services, economic dev. foundations, head start, senior centers, american cancer society, cass county emergancy board and others

at what age can you start to be an extention agent and when do you have to retire?
one can become an agent once they obtain their bachelors degree and could work until they retire usually from age 55 to 65.

Do you have to know a lot about agricultur to be an extension agent?
Agents have an abundance of education information resources at their hands. By having a bachelor degree, one has a good foundation of information. Agents are continually taking courses to expand their knowledge.
